How I meditate
A poetic reflection on meditation.
I love meditation.
Everyday I get on the mat.
To sit. To relax. To be.
Every now and then, I don’t feel like it.
But I still sit.
I sit still.
*
Its never a minute wasted.
Sitting enriches my life.
It doesn’t take time. It gives it.
I become more present.
*
There is more time.
There is more happening.
More to be experienced.
*
Without meditation, there is chaos.
There is agitation in the mind.
The mind is there. And there. And there.
Oh, and there.
But, not here.
*
There is stress.
Worrisome, about things to do.
Questioning, all things done.
*
With meditation, there is peace.
There is calm in the mind.
Outer storms might come. Inner too.
But there is calm.
*
There is patience.
Acceptance. Gentleness.
It’s ok. It’s all good. Nothing’s wrong.
Relax.
*
Without meditation, there is always something wrong.
Something is not right.
This should be different. This should be there.
And this should not be here.
You should have said this. Done that.
No, no, not like this. What are you doing?
*
The mind is tricky.
It likes to fool. It likes to jump.
Crave this, crave that.
Be here, be there.
Think of this, think of that.
Fast, function!
But rest?
Not a second.
*
When I sit to meditate, it all stops.
It slows down. I relax.
And then.
Something else begins.
*
Thoughts come. But, they are different.
They are slower. They are deeper.
They are more profound.
Insights come. Fresh ideas arise.
I am not helping out. They just show.
*
And on top of that.
There is bliss.
There is ecstasy. A slow one.
*
Beauty of presence. Of peace.
The purity of being.
Being.
Without trying to change.
*
Just observing. Just watching.
Falling.
Gently falling into the ocean.
Of the mind. Of stillness. Of what it means.
To be me. To be alive.
Not to fight. Just to breathe.
No worries. Just acceptance.
That all is fine. That all is well.
Just the way it is.
I am ok.
*
Gong sound.
*
The alarm goes off.
I don’t want it to stop. But, I am also thrilled.
To take all that. With me.
Into the day.
Have stillness within.
Be present. Be there.
All I do. Becomes beautiful.
Natural.
*
Thank you meditation.
For being there. For showing me.
That I am, there. That I am, here.
*
Nowhere else to look. But within me.
Just breathe. Just observe.
And enjoy.
Purity.
Of presence. Of the moment. Of myself.
*
It’s all simple. It’s all there.
I just sit.
And I look.
That’s it.
That’s how I meditate.
